Hey good people. We’ve been busy, so we apologize for the lack of activity in the news dept. Short but sweet: we’re playing a show with Giants Chair (yes, THE Giants Chair), not to mention Ex Acrobat and Haunted Heads. The date is Friday, Sept 22nd at the Triple Rock, so be sure not to miss out. Also, we will soon be announcing details re: our 20th anniversary show at the Lyndale VFW on Dec 9th, so stay tuned about that. Also…we’re hitting the studio this month to record our first full-length since Fortress with the one and only Adam Tucker of Signaturetone Recording; we expect you’ll be pleased with the results. Keep in touch and we’ll try to do the same. Thanks always, friends!

I joined this band in August of 1997, and we’re still on the journey. I couldn’t ever have hoped for more profound, talented, creative, and supportive friends and musical collaborators than Tom, Ben, and Brian, and I wish them - and you - a happy two thousand oh seventeen. Really excited to share the new songs with y’all this year. More soon…

We must have panicked when we realized the days were getting shorter again, cuz all of a sudden we started booking like crazy and now have a ton of great shows coming up! Highlights include Minneapolis appearances by far-flung heroes of ours Helms Alee (Seattle, WA), The Bronzed Chorus (Greensboro, NC), and Cinemechanica (Athens, GA). Not all on the same night, of course, but you can discover all of the excellent details for yourself by visiting the 'shows' page. You'll also notice that we'll be making a couple of quick trips to Chicago and Madison in the next few months. And uh...dare I mention that there have been whispers about some European dates in 2017? Well, then.

What about some new material, you ask? Better get yourself to a show to find out. We just may have a surprise or two in our cache...

We realize it’s been a bit quiet on the S-E front lately, and for a number of reasons: we’ve been writing new material, Ben has recently become a father, Tom has been busy winning awards for his delicious home brew, I’ve been focusing much of my energy on getting Technician’s debut record finished and sent to press, etc…but don’t you forget about us.  We’re getting back down to business this fall.  Tom and Ben got together with the good people at Day Block Brewing to design a recipe for a signature ale which we’ll be celebrating (read: drinking) at the brewery in downtown Minneapolis on 10/23 - we’ll also be playing some music for you that night.  AND - you’ve got another opportunity to catch us before the Day Block show, as we’ll be playing with our friends Fury Things at Icehouse on Friday, 10/2.  Come hang out with us and get your Rocktober double dose of Self-Ev - we look forward to seeing you!

At least for this guy. Shows this summer will be few and far between as we're locked up in the rehearsal space cranking out new tunes for a new album. We recommend that you plan to get yer S-E fix when we open for Local H on Friday, August 7th at the Triple Rock. Check the facebook page in case a house show pops up in the meantime. Also, buy a copy of The Traveler if you haven't yet, eh?

Love, hugs, and be well.

So who or what is The Traveler? The Traveler is a forthcoming 8 song compact disc by Self-Evident. Four songs recorded with Adam Tucker at Signaturetone (two new originals, two covers), and four songs recorded - but previously unreleased - during historical sessions with Carl Amburn at The Mousetrap in Norman, OK. We look forward to celebrating the birth of this new effort with all of you at the Icehouse in Minneapolis on Saturday, March 14th, so mark yer calendars.

(Side note: we are also currently working on our full-length follow up to WBAFOSN, which we're hoping to have in your hands sometime in early 2016. Please have patience.)

Caught in a bit of drizzle while riding to work last week, it occurred to me that I don't remember how November Rain goes, only that it's eleven boring minutes long and Slash drives his car off a cliff in the video for the song. Don't get me wrong: I'm a G'n'R fan to be sure - I just could never get down with that particular jam.

You may have heard whispers that S-E will be releasing new material soon - we've been putting the final touches on some of the mixes this past week. The record will be called "Time Capsule" and will include previously unreleased songs from recording sessions with Carl Amburn as well as new tracks recorded with Minneapolis studio wizard Adam Tucker of Signaturetone Recording. We're hoping - fingers crossed, but no promises - to have copies available at our next show on January 10th @ the 331 w/ Technician and Bitter Canon. We're also working on new material for another full-length album, so we'll keep you posted on all that good stuff as well. Talk soon, eh?

I couldn't come up with a decent seasonal headline, so "Lonely Summer Nights" it is - one of my favorite Stray Cats songs. Not that we're especially lonely people or anything, but it is nighttime and summer as I write this.

We're playing a weekday show with some new friends, SkyAcre, who will be coming through town on Wednesday, September 3rd. The show will be at the Nomad, so stop by and hang out! You know the drill: responsible legal drinking age adults only, and a small cover charge to help out the touring band, etc. We're also excited to find out that we'll be opening for Chicago band Into It. Over It. at the Triple Rock on Friday, October 17th. The last time they played Minneapolis, they sold out the Entry, so it couldn't hurt to get tickets early to reserve a spot on the dance floor. This one starts early - doors open at 7:30pm, and we'll go on at 8:30pm sharp.

In other news, we're booked to record our EP of B-sides, covers, and a couple new tunes in late September, and I'm sure we'll have some sort of release show once it's all put together. We're also writing (slowly but surely) another full length album to follow. This has been a busy summer of shows, travel, and band-unrelated things, so we're hoping to hunker down and craft some new songs once the weather's cooler and the kids are back in school. Until next time, keep in touch!

Hark!  We have at least 7 shows coming up through June.  Some here, some there, all in the midwest.  We are looking forward to this immediate weekend with Bear Claw in Madison and Chicago, and then we’re doing a weekend later in May with Muscle Worship (Lawrence, KS) and CRTVTR (Italy)!  Check the shows page for details, there are some damn good ones with some damn good folks!

Oh, and we have a name for the upcoming B-sides and rarities album.  It’s going to be called “Salvaged”, which we think it pretty fitting.  We’re going to finish recording tracks for it this summer and hope to have it in your hands by this fall.

Finally, since Ben and Tom are in other projects (Zebulon Pike and Lovely Dark), Conrad naturally had to follow suit.  Check out his new band called Technician.  They are quite rad.

That's what my wife calls this endless winter subzero death grip blues the weather has been slowly tightening on us north country folk this season: the "shack nasties." Self-Ev is getting ready to heat things up with a show supporting Seattle's own HELMS ALEE at the Triple Rock on Monday, March 17th, so come on out and warm your butts by this rock 'n' roll fire - but mind the mpls winter parking restrictions if y'all are driving. Check out our facebook page if you need more details than that, and stay posted about upcoming Wisconsin and Chicago shows as the great thaw of 2014 begins...we hope.

Where to begin? First of all, endless love and respect to Chris, Jason, Rob, and Ross from Traindodge. We just returned home from an eleven city, six thousand mile trip officially dubbed "The Supernatural Drives Tour," which was a ton of fun and a total success, albeit the marathon drives. So hats off to those dudes, and huge thanks to everyone who attended the shows, bought us drinks, provided kind words and places to stay, and all the rest. We were excited to see old friends, familiar faces, and to make new acquaintances in each and every town we played. Thanks also to all of the great bands who shared the stages with us, and to the venues who hosted us. This has been a warm welcome to the west coast, and we truly hope to make it out there again.

We have a couple of great Twin Cities shows coming up soon: Tom's birthday extravaganza at the Triple Rock this coming Saturday, November 30th featuring Vonnie Kyle and Wizards are Real; also a Turf Club show opening for Arcwelder on Friday, December 27th that we're very excited about. We look forward to seeing you at the shows - let's wrap up 2013 proper!

We're finally, FINALLY, making plans to motor west with none other than our longtime mates TRAINDODGE. Seems strange that we've toured on other continents without having made it to the left coast yet. I guess the mountains and the long drives have always seemed a little intimidating, but this trip is just way too long overdue. We're still in the planning stages, but we're looking at OKC, Albuquerque, Phoenix, San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Omaha as a tentative itinerary. We'll be hitting the road in mid-November if everything works out the way we hope it will. Until then, you can catch us in sweet home Minneapolis - just check the shows page for details.

The rumors are true, Ben got married this past weekend to a wonderful lady who even seems to like him somewhat! Be sure to congratulate Ben the next time you see him.

Speaking of marriages and weekends, our great friends TRAINDODGE have asked us to join them this weekend in holy rocktrimony to celebrate the release of their new album, "Supernatural Disasters". We'll be playing with them at The Riot Room in Kansas City on Friday (6/28) and then at The Conservatory in their hometown of Oklahoma City on Saturday (6/29). It's gonna be all honeymoon.

We have one show setup in Minneapolis in July, playing The Great Went's CD release show with Traindodge and Harcore Crayons on Saturday July 20th at The Hexagon.

After that, we're planning on wood shedding some more ideas through the rest of the summer and getting some more songs going towards our own new album.

Look for more shows in the fall which may or may not include a west coast tour!

Hey dudes, we've posted a handful of upcoming shows we'll be playing through the spring and into the summer.

Next week we're playing on Wednesday (4/24) at 7th Street Entry with two incredibly amazing touring groups, Tera Melos and TTNG (This Town Needs Guns, UK). We play first, right at 9PM, so here's your chance to see us early for a change!

We're also playing next Saturday (4/27) at The Belmore / New Skyway lounge, which is a totally new venue to us. We'll be rocking with our Minneapolis pals Hardcore Crayons and Hasps, as well as old Chicago friends Phantom Works.

There are some regional shows coming up in May, and then we'll rock a few other shows sprinkled in there with Stinking Lizaveta and Traindodge around Ben's wedding in June (no kidding!).

Finally, there's another European tour in the works with our bros and labelmates, Buildings. Look for dates in the late fall. Holy shit!

Posted by Tom on Apr 19, 2013 - 04:03 PM

So in two days at the Turf Club in St. Paul we will be hosting one of our favorite heavy bands from the Windy City; an instrumental powerhouse known as Electric Hawk. We are seriously excited to rock with them once again.

In order to step up our game, we will be featuring a secret 4th member for a few of our songs. If the performance is anything like the rehearsals have been, you're in for a real treat.

If that wasn't enough, pals They Dead (members of Story Of The Sea / Push On Junior) will be kicking the night off in all the right ways.

This will be our only local show until late April, details on that awesomeness to follow.

S'been far too long since the last update. Seriously. We've been kinda laying low since the November tour, working on some new songs and otherwise hibernating like proper North country folk. 2011 and 2012 were pretty damn good to us - we're looking forward to finding out what this new year will bring. For starters, we're gonna heat things up w/ good friends Nonagon (who have a new record that rules!) and Buildings (who have a new bass player who rules!) at the Cause on Lake and Lyndale on Saturday, 1/26; we'll see you there. And on Saturday, March 2nd, we'll be back at the Turf Club w/ Electric Hawk (Chicago's finest heavy instrumental riff rock band who only a fool would miss). We're also working on some regional midwest shows in the near future - so stay posted. (Also, we're on TV! See our facebook page for details.)

Last I checked, tickets were still available - visit for details. We'll have specifics on a couple of other great upcoming MPLS shows soon (our 15 year anniversary and the return of OKC's Traindodge, anyone?), so y'all best keep in touch...
